Overcome - The Commentary

This song was composed at a time when my spirit was greatly oppressed and suppressed by the enemy. I felt that I was ignoring my Love and I felt so guilty. I was acutely aware of His desire, but I just kept procrastinating our personal time with task after task. Midst this suffering, the Lord comforted me in an unexpected way - lyrics from my old music.

For those who know Damien Rice's "The Blower's Daughter", there is this heart-wrenching line in the chorus when he sings,

"I can't take my eyes off you..."

The Lord spoke those words to me...so immensely provocatively...
No matter my spirit's condition..."I can't take my eyes off you..."
Whether those eyes are admiring my faith, or yearning for my love; crying out my joy or weeping my sorrow, "I can't take my eyes off you..."

This song is a duet and the first part is sung by the Lord and the second is by me or/and you x]. The First Verse is the first few sentences of the Sweet Daily Living Precious Prayers [from Psalm 17:8-9].
"Keep me as the apple of Your eye;
Hide me under the shadow of Your wings,
From the wicked who oppress me,
From my deadly enemies who surround me."

How precious that the Lord keeps us as the pupil of His eye, that His protection, like a shielding eyelid, is so quick! Truly, "My salvation is less than an eyeblink away"!

The First Chorus really melts my heart...
I borrowed Rice's lyrics and truly, though my guilt impeded my faith and I dared not look at Him, how precious that He can't take His eyes off me. And not only that...His eyes are overcome by me. [This is the first reason why I named this song "Overcome"; Song of Songs 6:5]

The Second Verse tries to reconstruct the scene where Peter initially had a sturdy grasp of faith to walk on water, but suddenly, his grip was weakened by doubt and he began to sink in fear. [Matthew 14:29-32]

As we struggle in our stormy trials, how precious that when our heart cries out, "Lord, save me!", it cuts to His heart. How can He delay saving His beloved?! Again, truly, "My salvation is less than a heartbeat away." x]

The Second Pre-Chorus parallels the First on the theme of drowning, but this time, it is the drowning of the enemy by our powerful and mighty Lord who is in fact the Son of God!!! These descriptions are taken from The Song of Moses in Exodus 15. If you are not familiar with it, I encourage you to read it =]. It's such an encouragement, to see the might of our Awesome GOD - Jehovah!!! "They sank like lead in the mighty waters" [Exodus 15:10] - wowww...it is impossible for lead to float! And here, I specified the "waters" as "lake" just as a reference to the lake of fire [Revelations 19:20]. This affirms the Lord's ultimate and absolute victory over Satan and all evil spirits!!!
"Now salvation, and strength, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down." [Revelations 12:10]

And likewise, earlier on, it was I who dared not look at Him, but now it is they who dare not look at Him nor disobey His command!!!

The Second Chorus draws on the well-known verse from James 4:7-8, "Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you." The latter is true, and I'm sure we've experienced it that when we return to Him, we feel His presence once again. But actually, He has never left us, and He never can, for He is too in love with us forever x]. [Ohhhhh JuJuuu!!! ><><><] So actually, when we draw near to Him, it is merely realising that He has never left x].

The Bridge begins my response to Him. It is my declaration of faith! The word of my testimony! [Revelations 12:11] I really love the imagery of how the Lord's arms were stretched wide open on the cross, and it is through His glorious salvation that I can soar, that I can break through to the cloudless morn, with my faith confirmed and fueled by His greatest victory over sin, satan, death and ALL THINGS!!!
"And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb"!!! [Revelations 12:11]

My faith soars so high that I do not care what they do to me, for they cannot harm me; for "my faith is rooted in the Faithful one" who loves me unfailingly, because He is my Husband. Wow...this almighty victorious One that the all evil spirits squirm away from is my HUSBAND who loves me to the point of death! What good thing will He hold back?

Just a side note, I have the faith to call Him, "My Husband", because haha well, that is the truth! xD In Hosea 2:16 it says,
"'And it shall be, in that day,"
Says the LORD,
'That you will call Me 'My Husband,'"
Oh His desire is so touching...

Moreover, the identity of the Church to the Lamb is His bride and wife [Revelations 19:7; 21:9]. Further, Paul reveals the mystery of marriage between husband and wife to be a reflection of the true husband and wife relationship between the Son and us that He has desired and planned for since eternity past. And actually, many other parts in the Bible affirm this truth.

Returning to the song, He has saved me on the cross and He will continue to save me whenever I need Him x]. And truly, His victory is my victory!!! My Beloved is mine, and I am my Beloved's. We are a couple - a single entity. If they squirm from Him, they too squirm from me, from us. =D

In the Last Chorus, I declare boldly how my Beloved has restored me to the whole spiritual world. I declare that I will never leave Him. He is my rock.

And finally, I sing to my Love...
"And I...I won't take my eyes off You..." x] Everyday, they faithfully gaze at You till the day they see Your face x].

So to conclude, the reason I named this song "Overcome" is this: the way that He is overcome by our gaze, our faith, is in fact what compels us to OVERCOME all the enemy's disturbance, accusations and all shadows! And this in turn is what overcomes our Beloved's heart again! x]

So my beloved brothers and sisters, overcome with your dove's eyes - the Lord and the enemy x].
